Free and Feature-Rich

Text Wrangler is a great free application for basic text editing. Its tracking and editing features only add to its bare-bones design. I use it mainly to edit my HTML and CSS code—nothing complicated, but it is MORE THAN ADEQUATE for all of my programming needs. The hotkey commands help make the coding a breeze when doing repetitive tasks. It also warns you when the server you’re editing off of has lost connection, and allows you to pick up and keep going as soon as you reconnect. That’s a really useful feature, especially for me when I have to use a VPN to dial in.

The only gripe I might have is that it occassionally locks up for a few brief seconds when saving changes with multiple files open.
