TextWrangler App Reviews

Serves all my text needs

Ive been using TextWrangler for a few years, and its a solid, solid app with a very extensive feature set. My only problem with it for the last few years has been that Id love to send them some $$$ for it to keep developing it, because I love the slimness of it compared to BBEdit (which is, in most respects, even better). Back to TextWrangler, though. Its free, and its awesome. What are you waiting for?

Best daily app

I use this app everyday. Its compare feature combined with ftp server just help me update files on server or just small changes easily. A must have for any developpers. And yes what about Encoding support and mastery. A life savier ! One missing thing ? a source code rewrite with format for common language like ftp, js. But cant have everything for free ! I am yet to discover version 3.5, maybe it is there.

Finally a great python editor for mac!

I LOVE IT I wish I could have paid for this app, I would have done so gladly! Coodos to Bare Bones team!

Excellent

Excellent editor. One suggestion, though: As a programmers editor, usage of mouse should be minimized in my opinion (others may of course disagree). The thing I was looking for was a keystroke to bring a function list (say in C/C++) and an ability to navigate it using keyboard alone. The up/down keys would be ideal for that latter. I like it otherwise.

Excellent!!

This is a must have for anyone working with text files --- and thats everyone at one point or another. Has all the features that are needed in a clean and easy design. It even has a spell checker and a file history. I highly recommend this application for everyone; programmers to casual users. ME

Cant beat the Free price

Ive always looked for a good free text editor on Mac and for a long time I used Smultron, then Fraise. Both has ceased development, although Smultron seems to be active again. You cant argue with the Free price tag of TextWrangler though. Smultron for $4.99 is just not worth it.

One of the best free apps there is.

Ive been using TextWrangler for years. I think the companys plan is to give this away and youll want to buy BBEdit, the step-up editor from TextWrangler. Frankly, TextWrangler is so capable, I have never made the leap. This program is rock solid, including its built in FTP client. Everytime I try a "fancier" way of developing, I end up back at TextWrangler. It has saved me so many times with its ability to use regular expressions to search and replace something in a huge folder of files. Overall, this program has held a prominent place on my dock for years -- and thats truly saying something!

Powerful and fast

Not really an IDE but very close to it. Very good advanced text editor. Dont miss the manual, it has very funny remarks. :)

So amazing

I use this app quite often. It works just as described and is great for anyone that needs an easy to use text editor. I do light coding and this app makes it a lot easier. I cant believe such an amazing app is free; if I ever get serious about coding, Ill definitely look into buying their more advanced software.

AWESOME

its an amazing app, especially since its free, if your a web desgnier then its sick, all web coding in one app! Its amazing! Its like notpad++ on windows!

A joy to use

This is now my default text editor, does so much and very reliable no matter the encoding, or the line endings etc.

Great lightweight editor

Awesome editor, use it daily for PHP, JS, CSS and HTML coding. Unlike any IDE this one is so lightweight and responsive. Also it helps me to convert files between ecodings.

The best

This is the best. Use it all the time to update my web sites. Congrats on getting it on the Mac App Store, now, how about a iOS version on the other app store.

Best text editor out there

Ive been using TextWrangler since 2007. It is my go to app for everything from editing XML to reading/searching log files. It simply cant be beat. Glad to see it on the App Store.

Beginner Coder

Woah!! Im new to coding and was having trouble with Dreamweaver. Couldnt get TextEdit or AppleScript Editor working either but this program was the solution! Give it a go since its free!

java code color?

no more default java code color with version 4.0? i switched back to 3.5! in 3.5 i was able to select java as default programing language!! why break something that worked before? I could not find similar settings in 4.0 preferences.

If you own a Mac, you need TextWrangler

Unbelievable that this app is free. Dev, how can I pay you?

Nice editor, when it works

This is a decent editor in terms of features and workflow. Id give it a 4 star rating if it crashed less, but as is Ive stopped using it completely because it was crashing a few times a day.

After Smultron there is Text Wrangler

Wow. All this, and for free. So much control, and yet the editing interface is clean and clear. Evertime I wanted to change the apps behaviour I found an option to do it. While I might criticize some of the menu placement, the app is consistent across its own interface and what is there to complain about when you look at the price and realise there, uh, isnt one. Seriously, this app would be worth at least $20 if not more. Its very full-featured. What with the no-cost, you should at least try it! I would take away a star because the text-rendering engine doesnt work with Retina displays, but despite that very, very, very minor shortcomming, its early days and the app is very much more than that.

Replaced TextEdit.

Wow, what a great (and free!!) application. It has replaced and surpassed many times TextEdit for my everyday text editing needs. I just wish: - automatic creation of the closing HTML tag when closing the opening one, - auto detect indentation type (tab, 2 spaces, 4 spaces) when opening a source code file - magic "return", that place the cursor where it should be when editing source code file
