It would be great, if we could make and then use snippets :)
keep the good work…..! I substitute a lot of software with the change of the os, but text wrangler remains at his place as a good text editor.
Title
Text Wrangler is a great free application for basic text editing. Its tracking and editing features only add to its bare-bones design. I use it mainly to edit my HTML and CSS code—nothing complicated, but it is MORE THAN ADEQUATE for all of my programming needs. The hotkey commands help make the coding a breeze when doing repetitive tasks. It also warns you when the server you’re editing off of has lost connection, and allows you to pick up and keep going as soon as you reconnect. That’s a really useful feature, especially for me when I have to use a VPN to dial in. The only gripe I might have is that it occassionally locks up for a few brief seconds when saving changes with multiple files open.
I have been using TextWriangler for several years now. Great tool for a free app …
Text Wrangler works great for quick and easy editting of text files. I use vim and other IDEs for programming, but for quick editing very large text files > (50,000 lines, a large csv for example), Text Wrangler rarely crashes and does better than any alternatives
As a web developer I’ve been using this app for years, and consider it to be the single most important develpment tool I have.
I miss the good old days where simply using the free TextWrangler would give you a discount on BBEdit, but TextWrangler is powerful enough that BBEdit isn’t really necessary for most purposes!
This has been an ever present since I got into Mac back in 2007,,,, Best free text editor out there!
I’m a new CS student and I’m learning Python. I ran across this app and immediately started coding away. Great app :)
Very powerful text editor. A bit busy for my taste but suits my needs.
I just got through my first year of Computer Science, and now I’m adjusting from Windows to Mac… Text Edit is aweful for anything other than taking simple notes (VERY simple notes). Text Edit will ruin your html files. TextWrangler is making life a lot easier for me. HTML files are now easy to make, and I never have to worry about the pesky problems I had with Text Edit. This app includes a line counter, so you can know where any errors are after compiling/running your code. Other than that, TextEditor is just a simple raw text editing app that should be the standard for all Macs.
So far it’s my go-to editor on my Mac.
I always need a basic text editor, and TextWrangler suits that purpose very well. I like that it will perform basic formatting and colorization depending on the type of file it thinks it’s editing. And I like the ability to open a folder as input and see the folder hierarchy and all the files to edit - this is especially helpful for source code trees (like Java). One complaint: I am completely unable to change the default font typeface and size for all files. The Preferences pane would suggest otherwise, but no matter what I select, the default font for the file contents is “Lucinda Grande 11”. This was probably an acceptable font size when I was in my 20s, but not anymore. I like that they let me change the font size, but I have to do it every single time I open a file after closing it. PLEASE FIX THIS FOR THOSE OF US WITH LESS THAN 20/20 EYESIGHT!
Im just starting coding, this is one of the coolest text editors Ive ever used. Lots of commands, flexible, allows you to view invisible characters, can get rid of special characters, its goes on. This on its brother BBEdit are two of the best editors Ive ever used.
Text Wrangler is simply amazing!
I’ve used TextWrangler as my go-to editor for years and I’ve never paid a dime for it. I’ve looked over the features of BBEdit and I have no reason to buy it. I’ve tried other text editors and even if I use them I always have TextWrangler open at the same time. It’s terrible! I feel bad that I haven’t given Bare Bones any money for this indispensible app.
I used to have BBEdit. I think I stopped upgrading sometime in the late 90’s or early 00’s because Text Wrangler, the free version from BareBones, does everything I need it to do and then some. A week doesn’t go by that I don’t use this app—to strip line breaks, zap gremlins, pry open an epub (opens them in a beautifully organized fashion) for a quick edit, strip formatting, compare changes between two docs or do a grep find/replace. I can’t believe it’s free. Why don’t you have this?!
I use this application for HTML and CSS editing, it does the job wonderfully!
