There should be some way we can pay Bare Bones for TextWrangler. I don’t ever need BBedit but TextWrangler has been my go to on the OSX platform whenever I need a quick old school style text editor
Ok, that may be a bit much, but if your going to do ANY kind of web development download this. It has everything you need, and then some. And hey, if it turns out you didnt need it, IT IS FREE! Similar to other reviews I feel bad I use it so much.
Ive always loved TextWrangler. With this update, it opens a million times faster! Love it.
No complaints about this app outside of the shortcut icon. There’s just something about it that bothers me.
There is a bug when comparing the files that makes comparing files impossible after about the 3rd time…each successive use the tool gets less capable of performing where the file selection list gets pusshed off the screen making it impossible to select a file. If this feature were fully functional it would be given a lot more stars. Blessings, Tiffany
Have enjoyed this app till suddenly when I tried to Save As, the save as dialogue box come up longer than my screen so that I could only see the bottom of the box. I couldn’t change the name of the file. Some messing with the size of the original document gave me access to the top of the box, but then I couldn’t see the Save As or Cancel buttons at the bottom. When I try to open a new file, it doesn’t appear unless I do some other clicking around on the window. None of this was an issue until today. Until today, I loved it. I’ve reuploaded after deleting the app, still no improvement. Looks like I’ll just have to get used to TextEdit for my txt file needs. Bummer. Also, for a short while, when I clicked on the name of the program in the app box, it messaged me: This app is not available in the U.S. I still gave it three stars, just because of the past, but based on today, it gets no stars, as I am unable to utilize it efficiently and effectively.
I used to use this all the time, but this program is not compatible with Yosemite. When the save window opens, only part of it is visible. For a while after updating to Yosemite and installing the most recent Textwranger update, the bottom of the “save” window was cut off, so that after choosing the destination the only way to save was to hit return. In the middle of a session this changed: Now the top of that window is cut off, so that I again have access to the save button, but now there’s no way to choose the destination because that part of the window is cut off.
I used to have Notepad++ on windows and TextWrangler is the best all around text editor I could find on Mac.
everything s grey
I downloaded this app yesterday and it worked beautifully. I try opening it up again and it says it won’t open and check with the developer. I have Yosimite and I have been downloading the updates, but nothing is working...
I’ve been a long-time user of BBEdit lite, and then TextWrangler. This latest version has bugs (problems with Save As). Once the issues are resolved, I’ll be back unless I find a better solution in the meantime.
I’ve trusted TextWrangler for years, but ever since Yosemite it has issues. Others have already mentioned the issue with the save as dialog being cut off. I also have an issue with the program not allowing keyboard input after some multi-file searches. When this happens no text document or dialog accepts keyboard input and I have to quit and restart TextWrangler to fix this issue. I’m not sure why this only happens on some multi-file searches and not others.
Now, instead of the dialogue box being too low, it is too high. You can’t see the field for entering/changing filenames. Still a great app, but saving files at this point is “flying blind.” With the former problem you could hit return to save or escape to cancel. This is worse.
Works as advertised. Great utility, great price :)
Have been using TextWrangler, and it’s free, predecessor BBEdit Lite, for hand coding my website since 1995. It has worked near perfectly as far back as I can remember. With Yosemite, I had a problem with the Open and Save dialong boxes extending off screen. Textwrangler fixed the problem with version 4.5.12 and instructions to enter this Terminal command: defaults delete com.barebones.textwrangler NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode The easiest way to get to Terminal is to search for it in Spotlight. Make sure your Spotlight Preferences are set to search in Applications.
This app is confusing. How do you manipulate text or get it to curve?
I needed a nice, plaintext editor for OS X - TextWrangler was the answer. It does exactly what it claims to do and does it well.
Lots of features, great price, venerable heritage going way back - why spend more?
This app, TextWrangler is great except for one problem. I opened a folder via TextWrangler one day, next time I use it, (always), it is showing the folder full-screen without any controls (tried going up controls nothing. Had to give this a four. Very Sorry.
